Automattic’s San Francisco Headquarters by Baran Studio Architecture

In 2013, Oakland-based Baran Studio Architecture completed new headquarters for Automattic, a creator of Wordpress.com and plugins such as JetPack, Akismet or Gravatar. The headquarters are located in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood and should comfortably fit about 20 employees.

“Beginning with an existing warehouse shell, the core concept for the transformation was to maintain the openness, clarity, and simplicity of the existing shell, and insert an adaptive ‘sleeve’ that responded directly to program. The sleeve changes material and configuration depending on its location in the project context and how it is required to perform, and interacts with the open space to maintain flexibility”, says Baran Studio Architecture
