A Quick Look Inside British Land’s New London Office

British Land, a commerical property company that develops and finances a portfolio of commercial and residential properties, recently hired workplace design firm Area to design their new office in London, England.

“Our brief was twofold: to create high-quality Cat B office space for Broadgate Estates, and convert the area facing Kingdom Street into four new retail units suitable for use as food and coffee outlets. It was important that the new shop fronts contributed to the appeal of the environment, helping to attract people to the area. This design and build project encompassed two distinct elements: the Cat B offices and the retail units. Both had their own challenges. The work inside 2 Kingdom Street took place adjacent to the busy reception area, which required us to manage our operations in a way that would avoid inconveniencing the building’s users. Working with project management company Stace, we delivered bright, modern offices with clean straight lines and neutral tones. Fittings and furnishings are contemporary, stylish and unfussy, with colourful abstract art to add visual interest. Exposed ceilings and ductwork are exploited as dynamic architectural features. The new retail units feature a bespoke glazing system providing clear vision and required complex structural modifications to the existing facade to accommodate,” says Area
