Inside M&C Saatchi’s New Sydney Office
A team of designers from workplace design firm Amicus recently designed a new office for global communication agency M&C Saatchi in Sydney, Australia.
“Amicus was engaged in early 2020 to support M&C Saatchi throughout the entire journey of their workplace transformation. With all employees working remotely and a lease expiration looming, a solution needed to be devised which would cater to the significant financial and workplace impacts for years to come.
Through staff survey analysis and leadership depth interviews, Amicus was able to create a workplace strategy document which mapped out their requirements. The plan reduced the need for over half of their existing space, helping them save $20 million over the next 10 years.
With the strategy in place, Amicus collaborated with design partner Woods Bagot to build a functional and modern workspace which paid homage to the heritage listed space. Some of the standout areas being the main atrium, featuring a statement staircase, and a dynamic break room perfect for team lunches, casual meetings and company events. The Amicus Delivery team worked closely with a heritage consultant to ensure that the structure was protected during construction.
The Amicus Technology team was involved from the outset, ensuring that the digital workplace solution was considered during the whole design and build process, instead of being introduced at the end of the project. This ensured that the technology strategy carefully aligned to the workplace strategic brief, meeting the needs for their hybrid working environment.
Meeting rooms are VC enabled with premium microphones and cameras to provide an equitable meeting experience for all attendees. Creative spaces are equipped with intuitive digital whiteboards which can be drawn on and erased with the wipe of a hand. A digital booking system allows staff to simply book the space they need from their email calendar.
M&C Saatchi took advantage of Amicus’ integrated services model, Keychain, to deliver the outstanding final product. The Keychain approach meant that the aspirations for open collaboration were defined up-front, then embedded in the early concept design phases for the physical space, the technology and the change process. M&C Saatchi’s office is now a haven of collaboration designed and built for their unique hybrid workplace culture, enabling creativity, innovation and connection for the long run.”
