A Look Inside The Fold’s New London Office

Workspace provider The Fold hired workplace design firm Oktra to design their new office in London, England.

“Located within a converted Victorian warehouse, the dynamic workspace spans five floors. Our task was to fit out one of the floors to transform it into a marketable space that would attract future tenants by embodying the young, energetic identity of The Fold. In addition, we created a supporting building brochure and website using bright visuals to help future tenants to visualise themselves within the sustainable working environment.

Architectural integrity

To communicate the distinct identity of the property we centred the scheme around the architecture of the building. Reacting to the architectural elements of the space, we preserved the original Crittall glazing to maintain historical character and support the sustainability credentials of the property. Further elements such as exposed brickworks and ceilings were essential to embracing the rustic charm of the building, creating a timeless identity that respects the heritage of the Victorian warehouse.

Functional flexibility

The front of house features a sleek tiled reception bar area, creating an inviting first impression. Behind the reception sits a core meeting room which forms a natural partition between the front and back of house. By making use of the existing architecture to divide the space we avoided the use of built partitions around the exterior, resulting in an open, flexible layout that can easily adapt to future tenants’ needs. The original terracotta red columns were integrated as a key feature of the design, utilising their distinct colour to inform the colour palette.

Harmonious workspaces
Surrounding the central meeting space are a variety of collaboration areas and informal seating spaces which break up the desk areas in the back of house. Vibrant green and pink tones in the furniture finishes introduce vibrant pops of colour, whilst warm, softer shades of pink and green complement the exposed brick and terracotta columns. Paired with neutral artwork and timber flooring, we created a harmonious, contemporary scheme that will appeal to prospective tenants.”
