A Look Inside Masdar’s New London Office

Energy company Masdar hired workplace design firm Oktra to design their new office in London, England.

Masdar sought to refurbish their office space to elevate the workplace experience and align more closely with the design standards of their Abu Dhabi headquarters. Using Masdar’s brand guidelines and research into their Abu Dhabi workspace, we developed a new design inspired by their global offices with a distinctly Middle Eastern feel, integrating elements that reflect both the cultural and commercial identity of Masdar.

Previously hindered by a traditional, linear layout, Masdar desired a more open and hospitality-led space to provide a destination for their travelling clients. Our design solution responds by creating diverse work settings that encourage movement and interaction, alongside private areas that ensure confidentiality for both employees and visiting guests.

We enhanced the workplace experience by focusing on both aesthetics and functionality. Acoustic ceiling baffles seamlessly integrate with the sleek design to improve the space’s acoustic performance, while slat slab partitions ensure confidentiality and reduce noise reverberation to create a better-quality working and meeting environment.

The office layout was designed to be dynamic, featuring timber slatted screens that shape the space without obstructing views, flowing curving walls for a seamless look, and a large, open teapoint that encourages socialisation. The space offers a variety of work settings, including agile workstations, flexible meeting areas, and advanced AV conferencing rooms, all designed to foster effective communication and collaboration.

By enhancing Masdar’s brand representation and client engagement capabilities, the space is positioned to host clients in a professional and welcoming environment. The adoption of a flexible work environment allows Masdar to accommodate their staff more efficiently, adapting to various work styles and needs, which in turn supports productivity and facilitates operational success.
